WJBL Travel Program, 2nd - 8th

Our Travel program is for Weymouth boys in grades 2-8 that are looking for a more intense season than that provided by our Town program.

Who

This program is for Weymouth boys. We field teams for 3rd through 8th graders. Some grades may have two or more teams, depending upon a number of factors. Second graders are welcome to try out for the 3rd grade team.

Player selection is based on their ability to contribute to a well-rounded team, not just individual skill.

When

The season begins with tryouts. Practices start in mid-November and the season ends with March playoffs.

Saturday 9/26 All grades at Weymouth High School Gymnasium

Grades:

2/3 8AM

4 9AM

5 10AM

6 11AM

7 12PM

8 1PM

Tuesday 9/29 grades 2/3 (6PM), 4 (7PM) , and 5 (8PM) at Chapman Middle School

Wednesday 9/30 grades 6 (6PM), 7 (7PM) , and 8 (8PM) at Weymouth HS

Where

Home games are on Saturdays at the Sgt. Chesna Gym at Chapman Middle School. Away games are at South Shore towns from Plymouth to Quincy. Away games are usually (but not always) on Saturdays.

Practices

Practices are weekday evenings. Most will be at Weymouth school gyms, but we are still sorting out the locations. Times, days and places will be worked out once teams are established.

Games

Teams will play in the South Shore Youth Basketball League. They will play each opponent twice for 12-16 games.

Most teams will play half of their games at home and half in the opponents’ gyms.

Uniforms

A kit of jersey + shorts must be purchased separately by the family. We will send that information after teams are formed. It will cost about $100. If your player has a uniform from last year that still fits they do not need to order a new one.

Cost

The fee is $385 which covers the cost of at least one non-league tournament for most teams.

New uniforms will be about $100 for top + bottom, and pieces can be bought separately. Watch out, the uniforms ran really small last year- we advise families to order up.

We strive to keep our fees as low as possible by fundraising. This year we are offering a payment plan to everyone.

Finally, all Travel players get to play in our popular Town League for 1/2 price.

When will we know if my son made a team?

We are placing a priority on timely notifications. Everyone will be notified one way or another by mid October.

Does everyone make a team?

We would love to have a roster spot for every interested player. Unfortunately, several factors, including the Weymouth gym shortage, make this impossible. The WJBL Board sincerely hopes not being selected does not discourage young players. We know of many players that went on to have great Travel seasons even after not making a team one year. We also have a full season of Town games for grades 3-12. No experience or ability needed for any Town team.

How do I register my son for tryouts?

You will need to create a Crossbar account for all things WJBL. If you already have one from the Summer League or last year please continue using that one. Email us if you have a problem with your account, as creating new ones can create problems for everyone!
